Happy Fall, Y’all
I love that it’s finally feeling like fall! Sweaters in the am, humidity dissipating, and pumpkin spice is back on the menus.
I’m super excited to share with you my latest autumn-themed music activity–I really think your students are going to love it! 🍁 These rhythm exercises are perfect for introducing and reinforcing quarter and eighth notes in an easy to use and fun way.
Starting with the basics of breaking words into syllables and leveling up from there (dots, stick, traditional notation) you can use this singular resource with multiple grade levels or differentiate within a given class.
It’s designed to adapt to individual work or centers, is an assessment and can be left with a sub (musical or not). How’s that for versatile?!
While my students love to work with manipulatives, I can’t always dedicate the time for cutting. This activity can be split into different days to accommodate your schedule. Need something quick and quiet: paper and pencil. Want to have them practice their compositions on instruments–break out the percussion!
Here’s what’s inside:
Rhythm sorting, matching, and notation pages (syllables, dots, stick and traditional notation)
Composition pages (4- and 8-beat word chains)
Specific teacher and student instructions

Let me know if you try it in your classroom—I’d love to hear how it goes!
Have a great week,
Joanna
