Halloween Candy Rhythms Match (A Google Slides Game)

Trick or Treat! 👻

It's getting to that time of year again! Halloween is just around the corner, and I'm so excited to share my new Halloween Candy Rhythms Matching Game for Google Slides with you! 🍬

This no-prep, interactive music lesson is the perfect way to get your class in the Halloween spirit and teach them some essential music skills at the same time. 🎶

With 16 different slides featuring popular candy names, students must match the candy to its correct rhythm using quarter and eighth notes + quarter rest. This activity is guaranteed to hook your students in and will likely lead to some great debates about favorite candies. 🍭🍫

You could easily extend the lesson by having students perform the rhythms on classroom instruments (Orff, non-pitched percussion, recorder, ukulele, etc.) after you’ve practiced and played.

Here are a few ideas for how to use the game in your classroom:

  • Warm-up activity: Start your music class with a round of the Halloween Candy Rhythms Matching Game. It's a great way to get your students' brains and bodies warmed up for learning. Have them practice the rhythms using different levels of body percussion.

  • Assessment tool: As you’re playing, take note and assess your students' understanding of quarter and eighth notes + quarter rest.

  • Center activity: Set up the game as a center activity during your music rotation. Students can work on the game individually or in small groups at their own pace. Either connect to a smart board, ipad (or the like) or have a device set up as a centers station.

  • Sub activity: If you have a substitute teacher coming in, share the Halloween Candy Rhythms Matching Game with them to play with your students. It's a no-prep activity that they'll love and they don’t even have to have any musical knowledge!

No matter how you choose to use it, the Halloween Candy Rhythms Matching Game is sure to hook your students in while teaching these important concepts. So grab your copy today and get ready for some spooky musical fun!
