A Classic

I don’t know about you, but I absolutely adore the children’s book “The Snowy Day” and could probably craft lessons around it for an entire month. Children are fascinated with this classic story for a reason and I love watching their faces light up when they see the cover.

I do tons of activities with “The Snowy Day” (acting, scarves, instruments) with my younger students (K-1), but wanted a way to keep it relevant and revisit the book with my older ones (knowing they benefit from revisiting books), so I decided to make a Google Slides rhythm game with it to keep the fun going.

This interactive game makes learning and reviewing rhythms a blast (quarter, half, eighth notes + quarter rest). With simple, clear instructions and suggestions for extensions (like I said: I could use this book for a whole month!), this activity is certain to delight and excite your students.

I’ve included a bonus activity for retelling and enhancing the story with instruments (if you opt to play on a more advanced instrument like recorder or ukulele, your older students will be transported to their younger days and find renewed joy in a story they used to love).
Don't wait to bring the magic of "The Snowy Day" to your elementary music classroom! Check it out here!

Have a great week,

Joanna
